Artist FAQ What albums will you accept? While we maintain the right to reject any album for any reason, as long as it's your own work offered legally we don't apply any subjective quality standards or genre restrictions. We'll put Dinosaur Jr. right between Debussy, Claude and Dion, Celine and let the listening community decide for themselves what they want. We generally avoid single track listings, but we're open to EPs, compilations, live sets, and other releases in addition to full, proper releases. We'll also be happy to host your back catalog if you wish; we don't discriminate based on age. This policy may change a bit in the future. As volume increases, the process will most likely become more automated and/or slightly more selective. Any major change to the acceptance policy will be posted in advance and will be a democratic process not subject to the whims or tastes of the administrators. What file formats will you accept? We're flexible, but as a general rule of thumb we recommend that you offer at least 192kbps .mp3s, and for fans who are willing to sacrifice convenience for sound quality at least one higher quality option such as 320kbps .mp3 or FLAC. Can I sell other digital products here? Albums are our bread and butter and are the only thing we pretty much universally accept, but we're open minded. If you have a different music-related product (concert film, documentary, ebook, etc.) conducive to our distribution methods that you're interested in selling send us an e-mail and we'll see what we can do. What should I include in my album description? Try to be as objective as possible, and focus on how the music sounds rather than how good you think it is. Simply saying "this is awesome!", no matter how true it may be, doesn't do a lot to tell a hardcore punk fan whether they're going to like your album or not. Can I change the price of my album or offer sales? Sure. Just e-mail us and let us know what we can do for you. My band is signed to a label. Can we still sell our album here? If your label is cool with it, so are we. However, we still prefer to deal with your band directly and then let you handle any contractual obligations to your label; we don't want to list something and then find out it was put up against the artist's wishes. When will my album be posted? Unless you instruct us otherwise, it will most likely be available within 48 hours of when we confirm all the details we need from you. How long will my album be offered for? Indefinitely, or until the swarm dies. We'll do our best to keep everything seeded for as long as possible, but bandwidth costs money and we also have to focus on providing the initial seeding for new albums. If you'd like to help your cause, you're more than welcome to help seed the torrent yourself and/or find other people to help you do so. We're also willing to offer an album for a limited time (say from when you finish recording until you get hard copies pressed) and if you ever decide you want to stop using our service, all you have to do is e-mail us and we'll remove whatever content you wish. We also reserve the right to remove content at any time. When, how, and how much do I get paid? Payment for any sale is immediately sent to the PayPal account you specify when you submit your album. You will receive the full sale price, minus whatever fee your PayPal account type dictates. You may also be responsible for collecting sales tax depending on your state's laws. We don't take any portion of the sale. Can I sell my album elsewhere? Of course. We wouldn't dream of telling you what you can or can't do with your music. We'll also be happy to provide you with a direct link to your .torrent which you are free to give out or sell as you see fit, bypassing our shop. What kind of DRM do you use? None. Won't that lead to piracy? In a word: yes. For more information on why we don't think you should be particularly concerned about that, please read here. I can't upload my album to send it to you, are there any alternatives? Yes. If all else fails you can contact us for an address to send a hard copy of your album to and we can rip your CD into pretty much any format you desire. We can also accept tapes and vinyl, but at the moment our capabilities with those formats are decidedly amateurish and basically consist of running an old tape deck or record player into the line-in port of a consumer grade motherboard's on-board audio. My band's work is up here and we didn't put it there. What gives? We make every effort to avoid this happening, but there's no bulletproof way to stop scammers. If you find that someone has submitted your work as their own, please contact us immediately and (after investigating, if necessary) we will immediately remove the content in question from the website and tracker, direct you to the person who submitted your work, do our best to help you in any other way you require, and offer our sincere apologies. Submission Guide
First and most importantly, anything you submit must be your original work, and you must hold all applicable copyrights and licenses (including samples, covers, artwork, etc.) for that work. No exceptions. Assuming you clear that hurdle, here's a quick cheat sheet for the form below: PayPal Address: Let us know what address you would like payment to be automatically routed to. Please note that in order to access your money you will need to have either a Premier or Business account.Download URL: Give us a link where we can download the content you wish to submit. This can be hosted on your own server, or through a file hosting service such as mediafire.com or megaupload.com. Make sure to include any artwork or other extras you want packaged with the album. Bonus points if we only have to download one file (i.e., a .rar or .zip with everything in it). Alternatively, you can e-mail admin@honorsystemrecords.com with your submission as an attachment and indicate that you are doing so here. Album description: This will be included with your album listing. Try to keep it to around 100 words and as objective and informative as possible. Simply saying "this is awesome!", no matter how true it may be, doesn't do a lot to tell a hardcore punk fan whether they're going to like your album or not. If you would like to submit a longer description to be displayed in full on the product page feel free to do so, but please identify the portion you want featured in the front page listing. Track listing: Preferably formated like so: "1. Track Name 4:57" Artist website: If you'd like the listing to include a link to your band's official website or a MySpace profile or something, include the address here. Desired price: This can be whatever you feel is fair. In addition to fixed pricing, you can also offer a suggested price (the customer will see your suggested price and can then either accept, raise, or lower it), leave the price completely up to the customer, or offer content for free. Additional details: You can use this field for any other instructions or questions you might have for us before your album is posted. You can also use this space for others things you want included in the listing, such as additional credits or alternate licensing options.. TOS: Please make sure you have read our Terms of Service thoroughly. Submission Form |
